Morphicon 2007 Final Report (June 2007)

First of all, I want to thank each and every attendee of Morphicon 2007. It was a RESOUNDING success, far more than we thought. Let's get the thanks out of the way first:

Thank you to our three Guests of Honor, Steve Plunkett, Kitt Foxx, and Summer Jackel. You three really were a pleasure to have in attendence, and the artwork provided was outstanding!

Thank you to our charity for 2007, Ferrets Unlimited. We were able to raise $130 dollars in the raffle drawing, $402 from the silent auction, $286 from the pet sale, and Morphicon Corporation kicked in an additional $182 for a grand total of $1000. This total did not include any funds raised by Jean herself at her table.

Thank you to our Hypertrophes for 2007: Woryo, Trickster, Jewel, KT, Bastian, Bear, Harmless Gryphon, Ramseys, Tameria, Ba'ar, and Mystee. Your support is greatly appreciated, and from what I understand, you enjoyed the extra goodies you received. Rest assured that we will do everything we can to pamper our Hypertrophes. You give more, so we give more.

A special thank you from me, as con chair, to our staff for 2007: Mew, Trickster, Alex Kats, WhiteShepherd, Rough Edge, Ramseys T. Bull, Jewel, Rev. Marcus, Kasi Frost (who was unable to attend, but we thank her anyway), Keesha, Swift Fox, Silaria, Akeakami, Kattywampus, Pelzig, and Bear. If I forgot anyone who was on staff, please let me know. I know how hard you all worked to make this possible, and it was a pleasure to work with you.

Thank you to all of our Gophers: Kitten, Azura, Calico Panther, Xavier, Carl, Gedrean, Kwan, Talamak, Jackie, and Killamon. Your tireless efforts did not go unnoticed. We could not have done it without you. Any ideas you have for enticing more gophers to volunteer would be appreciated.

One more special thanks to Chris B. Critter, not only for his great T-shirt design, which sold out at the con, but for drawing a picture that was so good, we included it as a bonus to our patrons. Thanks, Chris!

Now, on to facts and figures: Our attendance was up. WAY up, from an attendence of 187 in 2006 to 241 actual attendees. That's 54 more actual attendees over last year, a growth of almost 29%!!! Wow! Feedback from attendees has been overwhelmingly positive! We must be doing something right!

We did have some registrations who did not pick up their badges. Noteably, Firehazard, who created the cover for our Program Guide. We missed you guys!

We had 33 fursuits in the fursuit parade. And I thought we would be doing good if we got twenty. Better believe that the fursuit parade will be a permanent fixture from now on.

The winners of the various contests were:

Masquerade: Novice -- pink husky boi
Journeyman -- Snazzy
Master -- Northpaw
Best of Show: Blood Raven
Cake Decorating: Karen Kwan
Vaccuum Challenge: Ostrich
Puppetry: Novice -- Swift Fox
Senior -- Zorro and Treads Lightly

If you have any you would like to share, please post a link to them on this list. We would love to see them.

Now, on to information about next year:

Morphicon 2008 Tentative Info
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WHERE: Morphicon 2008 will not be held at the Radisson next year, it will be held at the Worthington Holiday Inn. The location will be extremely convenient, since it's the exact same location! The hotel is simply changing it's name. The renovations will be finished then, all of the rooms will be available, as well as all of the parking spaces. In addition, next year we will have the use of the Adams room! We now have every single meeting room in the hotel (except for the restaurant). With our increasing attendence, that extra room will come in very handy.

WHEN: Morphicon 2008 will be held the weekend of May 16-18, the weekend after Mothers Day and the weekend before Memorial Day.

THEME: Morphicon 2008's theme is "Hooray for Furrywood!"
We have several special competitions and events planned. Possibilities include a short subject furry film competition, and a movie poster parody competition.

SPECIAL EVENT: We have a "Special Event" for 2008: the Ursa Major Awards. The Ursa Major Awards is an organization which recognizes outstanding achievement in furry related films, artwork, and literature. We are pleased as all get out that they have chosen Morphicon 2008 as their venue for their awards ceremony. We will be billing this as one of our major events next year, so, invite your friends to attend!

Presently, we have not chosen our Guests of Honor or our charity (well, not officially) for 2008 but we will very soon. Patience, my young Padawan.

We want to do a MUCH better job of letting people know we exist here, so, if you are going to attend a furry, sci-fi, gaming, or anime convention anywhere, give us a holler, and we will provide you with fliers for Morphicon 2008 to take with you. The more people know about us, the better.

Again, thank you all from the bottom of my heart for making Morphicon 2007 the best one ever! Here's to Morphicon 2008: May it be better still!

Max Goof, Con Chair
