The Morphicon March '08 Newsletter Morphicon 5: "Hooray for Furrywood" May 16-18, 2008 In this star-studded edition: ** Hotel Info **Last year our convention was at the Radisson. This year the hotel is under new ownership and is now a Holiday Inn. We will still be located at the same physical address at 7007 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43085. You can visit the hotel website. Rooms are booking up fast and the rate is only guaranteed through May 1st. If you wish to secure at room at the convention hotel, please do so now before our room block is filled up. Remember to use the group code MO515 if registering by phone. If registering by the Holiday Inn website use the code M80 . ** Preregistration **Early registration is still open if you wish to register and pay ahead of time. The early bird registration discount has been removed, and all prices are the same as registration at the door. Registering online will still save you time and hassle as your badge will be printed and ready for you to pick up! ** T-Shirt Contest Winners ** We’re proud to announce Mary Mouse as the t-shirt contest
winner! Her
artwork will be featured on this year’s t-shirts. Our runner up,
Kitt
Foxx, will have his artwork featured on the program guide cover.
The
winner and runner up will receive a free patron and sponsor registration
respectively. Mary drew the lion, and Kitt did the spiraling film.
Both
entries can be viewed at http://www.kattywampus.com/mc08/. ** Gophers ** If you’re interested in volunteering for the convention, we
can definitely use your help! Gophers make the convention possible,
and
discounts are offered on next year’s registration for those that
put in
the time. If you’d like to donate your time, get in contact with
our
gopher wrangler Tybee at the following e-mail address, tybeeotter_AT_gmail.com ** Hypertrophes **We’d like to extend a special thanks to those individuals who went above and beyond in their donations to the convention. While the registration for the hypertrophe level has now closed, there is always next year! This year’s hypertrophes are Soron, Bastian DuVane, Bear, Mystee, Harmless Gryphon, KT, Ramseys T. Bull, Trickster, and Jewel. Thanks again! Your donations help our convention go ‘round. ** Guests of Honor **D. C. Simpson and Max Blackrabbit will be joining us as guests of honor. D.C. Simpson is the creator of the web comic Ozy and Millie, and the online political cartoon I Drew This. Simpson has published most of his Ozy and Millie comics in paperback collections. Max Blackrabbit is traveling all the way from Canada to be with us! He’s well known for his skunkette creation, Zig Zag. His work has been featured in many comics including Furrlough, Extinctioners, and Sabrina Online. ** Charity **This year we’re pleased to continue to serve the Ferrets Unlimited animal shelter. They are based out of Cleveland Ohio and have been operating since 1993 rescuing ferrets and other animals. Their director, Jean Caputo-Lee, will have a table at Morphicon showcasing pictures of animals under the shelter’s care, and up for adoption. If you want to donate, please visit their website at the link here. ** Swift Fox and Silaria **We’d like to announce that SwiftFox has agreed to assist Ostrich with programming. He has been running a series of furmeets which are gradually growing into a small con, as well as being the organizer of several furry social groups, most notably the Pittsburg furs and the Babyfurs. Morphicon is a natural progression from that in terms of size and complexity. We're well-pleased to have his help. His mate Silaria will be taking over Gaming, with which she's run in conjunction with Swiftfox in times past. We're pleased to have both of them in these positions. Please welcome them, and extend them your cooperation as we move forward towards the con. Thanks ** Atomic Battle of Doom **We understand the impulse to modify Nerf weapons so as to improve their range and rate of fire. Though as you modify, please keep in mind safety and the need to maintain some reasonable balance of play. If you bring something that fires too hard, or uses painful ammunition, or is just too dominating, we reserve the right to prevent it from being used in play. For those who want to play, and are buying their first Nerf gun, we recommend the N-Strike Maverick. It's a six shot revolver, cheap ($8 or so) and with decent range and good accuracy. Everyone please consider bringing along some extra ammunition as well. There's always a shortage. As always, do not shoot your guns in the hall. ** Thursday Night **We’re pleased to announce that we have a variety of events scheduled for Thursday evening. From 6pm to midnight, we'll be offering open gaming and a Robespierre Room. At 11pm, Swift Fox and Max will be hosting a star party, weather permitting. Please meet up in the Factory Square area if you want to participate. ** Dealers **Dealers will be allowed to set up on Thursday night this year. The Dealers' Den will open at 10am on Friday this year, which gives you some extra time to sell, and brings us more in line with other conventions. ** New Programming **Yoga: Uchiha Fox is hosting a series of Yoga and stretching classes for us this year. It sounds like a nice way to wake up and start the day. Ears and Tail Workshop: Bring the fur that you intend to use. We'll probably have some small amount available, but it'll be a grab bag. If you want your tail to look some definite way, try to find the appropriate fur beforehand. Please consider participating in the Fursuit Parade on Sunday afternoon, if you finish in time. Pelzig's House of Bondage: Bring your own rope, if you want to follow
along with the examples. Adults only, please! As I mentioned earlier, to get the latest updates, and
join in See you next time! -- Jewel, and the rest of Morphicon Staff -- |
